Exhibition May 2017

Gallery
In May this year 2017 I exhibited at the "Oak Hill Gallery". After much, and very enthusiastic encouragement from co-exhibitor Gary Tate, I was persuaded to have an exhibition of some of my work. We chose Oak Hill Gallery due to its profile within the community as a friendly and progressive Gallery.

I found choosing the images quite challenging as I have very traditional landscapes and other more spiritual images. To combine the two in one exhibition could, I felt, cause a dysfunctional exhibition.

For me the landscape is not all grand vistas and amazing skies and waterfalls (they all do make up the landscape) but within the expanses of the landscape is the building blocks--small areas of texture, patterns and light, all combining to create an abstract image that has its own right.

Just recently I have been working with multiple imagery to create a single image, utilizing the ease provided through the programs available to make this happen to create an achievable quality. I am now able to fully explore my emotional responses towards the landscape.

For me the landscape is survival; we cannot live on this planet without it. For example, with the trees providing us with possibly the only source of oxygen and the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, we need them. So it's not just that they are nice to look at, we rely on them for life. We owe the landscape our respect.

In mythology we have many of the gods and spirits that we have considered the creators and the givers of life; all have a landscape based origin. Go back far enough, say to 4000BC, and you will find that our ancestors regarded the landscape as the giver of life and in many mythologies, elements were given a spiritual god status.

If you look hard enough into the landscape, take notice of what you see in the corner of you eye.

I would like to thank "Oak Hill Gallery" for the space,"Southern Buoy" for there framing skills and Gary Tate for the inspiration to complete the exhibition.

All images are for sale and have a restricted print run of 10, please contact me for details.
